The answer may be no, or we don’t know. Dr. Jerry Hogan CRNA, DNSc reviews everything we know about simulation, it’s advantages, and uses in modern day health care provider training. But finding the answer in evidence about whether it changes patient safety outcomes proves more challenging than we realize.
Memorable note: Do you really want to “try” a new drug out on a real patient? Simulation offers an alternative!
Jan Manino CRNA, JD walks us through the evolution of liability and anesthesia. As a legislative pioneer for nurse anesthetists in the modern healthcare system.
Memorable note: Once you engage in the care of a patient you have a duty till the care can be safely transferred.
Dr. Jonathan Pabalate CRNA, DNP reviewed why the specialty of anesthesia is at a critical mass turning point in using big data to leverage behavior and practice changes. The future is bright for delivering even better patient care then ever thought to be possible. Unlock your mind!
Memorable note: “You have to visualize before you can actualize.”
Dr. John McDonough CRNA, EdD reviews the history of IV Tylenol (Ofirmev) and how it has potential to revolutionize the way we look at treatment of acute pain.
It was a great day here at the venue at The Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. When you think about whether you might want to attend, consider the excellent quality of lectures, fantastic weather, and the fact that you could be pool side listening and singing along to something like this after the half days:
Dr. Philipp Lirk MD reviews the basic science behind how we came to discover the use of intralipid to treat local anesthetic toxicity and an intriguing view into what happens during treatment at the molecular level.
Memorable note: Intra-lipid therapy are a treatment option, but not a guaranteed antidote to bupivicaine toxicity
Dr. Juergen Osterbrink from PMU in Salzburg, Austria presented the significant changes he has been able to oversee in terms of the culture of pain assessment and the multi disciplinary intervention of pain control. He started with a pain free hospital goal, then a city, then a country, a culture, and in his mind, now the world.
Memorable note: Qualified Pain Management is evidenced by good pain and symptom control. You have to ask not only is there pain, but how are you willing to treat it!
The UNF Patient Safety Conference 2013 begins the International speaker portion of the Conference. Exciting information about pain control and local anesthetics will be presented by Dr Juergen Osterbrink PhD and Dr. Philipp Lirk MD PhD.
Here was the sunrise at the fantastic Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island in case you missed it:
